  Looking Thin

All the runs on the frontside at Northstar are open, but you’re dodging twigs and rocks when you roll in.

  Cold Snow

The temps are staying cold, cold enough to keep the snow from several days ago from dropping off the trees.

  Chilly Dog

Our passes are blacked out for a couple days, so no skiing until Sunday.

Cold temps—lows in the single digits, highs in the mid-20s. It was so cold on our evening walk that Ryder’s tongue froze to his nose.

  Powder for Thanksgiving

We kept getting snow showers yesterday and wound up with close to a foot at the house.

Northstar was able to open the East Ridge and we got about seven or eight powder runs out of it. Very short runs, but still...

We were hitting stuff under the snow at the top of nearly every run, but then it was a couple of feet deep once you got in.

  Just a Little Bit

We only got a few inches out of the storm yesterday, but it’s still snowing. Nothing has changed vis-à-vis lifts and runs.

Icy is the grip of winter.

  Stormy Weather

The snow started falling at 10:30, just as we started skiing. We skied for about three hours, leaving just as the groomers were starting to soften up from the fresh snow.

The storm came in wet. The drive home was very slick, and I-80 was shut down off and on due to spinouts.

Later, Nancy said, “There’s something black on your mustache.” My goggles had frozen to my beard and a piece of foam had torn off.

  Weather Coming

We came out on a windy day as a cold storm is coming in tomorrow.

  Getting Our Turns

We went out for a couple of hours of skiing, again at Northstar.

The resorts all opened a week or more early, but none have expanded the available runs beyond the bare minimum. So, we haven’t gone out to Squaw or Alpine yet because there’s not enough open to make it worthwhile.

  A Cold One

Cold, north wind. Frigid for skiing, but good for snowmaking. Northstar is blowing snow all day because the temps are going to warm back up to 50.

  And So It Begins

First day of skiing!

Northstar moved the opening day up a week due to a couple of small storms dropping a foot of snow. Best part: top to bottom skiing. We can ski down to the Village instead of having to download the Gondola as in years past.
